About Our Directors

JOSEPH GUZMAN
DIRECTOR OF BANDS

Mr. Joseph Guzman is entering his sixteenth year in Frisco ISD and his fourteenth year as the Director of Bands at Vandeventer Middle School.

Mr. Guzman teaches trumpet, trombone, French horn, euphonium, tuba, and the symphonic wind classes. Mr. Guzman did his undergraduate work at Texas Tech University and later received a Master’s Degree from Southern Methodist University. While at SMU, Mr. Guzman served as graduate assistant to the Mustang Marching Band and taught “The Art of Listening”, a music appreciation course for non-music majors. Prior to this position Mr. Guzman worked as a band director and general music teacher in the Dallas area.

After completing his degree at SMU, he became a private lesson instructor in the Frisco, Carrolton-Farmers Branch and Grand Prairie school districts. Mr. Guzman continues to be an active trombonist, performing with area orchestras, jazz ensembles and bands such as the Metropolitan Winds. He can also be found performing with his brass quintet, Sine Nomine Brass and the SlideShow Trombone Ensemble.

Mr. Guzman is a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and the International Trombone Association.

In his spare time Mr. Guzman enjoys traveling, cooking, seeing the latest Marvel movie and binge watching TV.


ALLISON JAdvani
associate director of bands

Mrs. Allison Jadvani is the Associate Band Director at Vandeventer Middle School. She teaches the  beginner flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon and saxophone classes.  She is also the Director of the Symphonic Band.

Mrs. Jadvani has served as a Music Educator for over 20 years. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. She has taught in Indiana, Florida and Texas. Her most recent position was as Assistant Band Director at Wester Middle School in Frisco. Prior to that appointment, she taught private clarinet lessons at Vandeventer Middle School and Liberty High School, among other schools in Frisco ISD. Mrs. Jadvani is a member of Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association.

In Mrs. Jadvani’s free time she enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with family and friends.



Michael Park

DIRECTOR OF PERCUSSION - Vandeventer MS

Mr. Mike Park is an active percussionist, arranger, and educator based in Dallas, Texas, with experience working with music programs across the country, including in New Jersey, Delaware, Ohio, Indiana, and Texas. Originally from Bergen County, New Jersey, Mr. Park relocated to Dallas in 2022 to serve as a percussion director in Dallas ISD (2022–2024). During his time there, he upheld a tradition of excellence with the percussion programs at Woodrow Wilson High School and J.L. Long Middle School, leading students to earn superior ratings at UIL and Solo & Ensemble competitions.

Most recently, Mr. Park served as a private lesson and drumline instructor at Forney High School and Lakeview Centennial High School (2024–2025), where both bands qualified for their respective divisions of the State Marching Band Competition.

Mr. Park holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Delaware, where he studied under Jim Ancona, Harvey Price, and Orlando Cotto. While at UD, he performed with the Percussion Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Latin Percussion Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, and the Fightin’ Blue Hen Marching Band. In 2020, he won the UD Wind Ensemble’s Concerto Competition, toured Spain with the ensemble, and performed in the drumline for President Joe Biden’s inauguration parade.

He also earned a master’s degree in music performance from Miami University, studying with Michael LaMattina, Patrick Schleker, and Chris Tanner. While there, he served as the graduate assistant for the athletic bands, working with the RedHawk Marching Band and co-directing the pep band for basketball and hockey games. He also performed with the university’s percussion ensemble, wind ensemble, symphony orchestra, and jazz band.

As a performer, Mr. Park has served as the drummer for the Richmond Jazz Orchestra, won first prize in both the 2020 Virtuoso International Music Competition and the 2020 Manhattan International Music Competition, and was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall for his marimba/loop station performance (canceled due to COVID-19). He has also marched three seasons with Drum Corps International as a tenor drummer with Pioneer (2016), Spartans (2017), and Cadets2 (2018). Currently, Mr. Park performs with the Dallas Cowboys Rhythm & Blue Drumline and is entering his third year with the team.

Mr. Park resides in Dallas with his cat, Maycie, and is thrilled to bring his expertise and passion for music to the Liberty High School and Vandeventer Middle School Bands.


Thomas Borgman
Director of Percussion - LIBERTY HS

Mr. Borgman joins the staff at Liberty and Vandeventer with extensive experience as a percussion educator, having led successful programs at Memorial and Rider High Schools in Wichita Falls ISD. Under his leadership, students consistently earned top honors in marching, solo, and ensemble performances, with standout achievements in All-State and All-Region bands. He is known for directing large-scale, theatrical percussion shows and has taught numerous masterclasses in the north Texas area. A graduate of Oklahoma State University, Mr. Borgman has a strong background in performance, composition, and private instruction.
